The Special Applications (SA) series of HLR Discreet Gear Clips™ are nearly identical in every way to our standard lineup of products, but they have a slightly shorter underhook geometry and are noticeably absent of the tab to lift up on.
How did they come about? Multiple repeated requests from individuals whose opinions we hold in high regard. For 99.9% of the applications out there our standard attachments are the way, but for a narrow band of applications they wanted an even more minimalist “slick” attachment that retains our quality and performance standards while still grabbing onto two retention points (belt and pants), thus the application specific SA Series family of attachments was born.
So how do you remove it? We looked at adding all sorts of features to make them easier to put on and take off to include multiple iterations of having an area to grab, but they either added unnecessary bulk, effected the performance of the clip in a negative manner or went against the logic and the “why” of the design. We then realized they can be removed from a belt with the right technique along with the addition of nothing more than a smooth gradual radius underneath the front of the clip. Simply put, give the bottom of the belt a slight outward twist to lift up the clip enabling access to the radiused area so you can place a finger underneath. This technique is repeatable one handed, with cold/wet hands and with most gloves aside of thick padded winter gloves and mittens.
Who we are:
Since 2007 we have been making quality tools and gear which support a particular set of life skills in parallel with our full time professions. We have learned a lot along the way and have gained a ton of valuable experience. Thousands of hours of hands on work as students in the training world and a long history of feedback from our end users have helped shape what we have evolved into today.
The backgrounds of the Discreet Carry Concepts team, coupled with a group of expert consultants (the majority of whom are end users with an understanding of the application of our products) have a wide range of backgrounds which are applicable to the manufacture of our final products. These backgrounds include Materials Science Engineering (metallurgy, polymer, chemical), R&D Professionals, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Professionals, expert machinists and experienced custom fabricators, all of whom have had a direct influence in creating the best manufacturing processes possible to yield the highest quality final products. These resources have helped us to implement robust repeatable processes with tight process controls. On the end user side we have some world class gentlemen (some very well known) in the training industry who cater to military, LE, executive protection and vetted civilian training markets. Along with our customers, they provide us with direct feedback on the usability and overall impression of the final product. At the end of the day it is you the customer that benefits from this with a repeatable, consistent and quality product that has been tested and can be relied upon to perform.
Process capability and what it means to us:
A robust process equals repeatability and consistency in the final product, which as the end user is the gear you trust with your life, ensuring that all final parts meet the industry standard for performance that we have set. At the end of the day a robust controlled process is also a quality check that benefits the end users who are you our customers.
V/R,
The Discreet Carry Concepts Team
